Upgrading to BuddyPress 1.5
BuddyPress 1.5 is a major upgrade, which fixes hundreds of bugs and introduces many dozens of improvements. We’ve worked our hardest to make sure that the upgrade process goes as smoothly as possible for all installations. The extensive nature of the BP 1.5 release, however, suggests some caution and planning before upgrading your site. On this page, you’ll find some resources to help you with the upgrade.
As always, it is highly recommended that you upgrade in a development or test environment before upgrading your live site. This will give you a chance to test to make sure that your plugins and themes are fully compatible.

How to upgrade
As with all BuddyPress upgrades, you can upgrade through the WordPress plugin interface, found at Dashboard > Plugins (in the Network Admin, for WordPress Multisite). After upgrading the software, the new BuddyPress Install/Upgrade Wizard will walk you through a few required configuration steps.
Finding the upgrade link
If you cannot find the upgrade link at Dashboard > Plugins, then go to Plugins > Add New, search for the term BuddyPress, and when BuddyPress comes up in the search results, you will see an upgrade link there.
Plugin and theme compatibility
In order to take advantage of BuddyPress 1.5’s new features, most plugins and themes will have to be updated by their authors.
- Want some information about the current state of compatibility? Visit the 1.5 Plugin Compatibility and 1.5 Theme Compatibility Codex pages.
